Please join us for a conversation with former Asian Development Bank President Takehiko Nakao on his book, Asia’s Journey to Prosperity – Policy, Market, and Technology over 50 Years, published in January 2020.

In the last half-century, dozens of Asian economies underwent tremendous economic transformations. From 1960 to 2008, the Asia-Pacific’s GDP per capita grew 4.7 percent each year, as compared to 1.7 percent in Latin America and .7 percent in sub-Saharan Africa. What spurred such growth in Asia? How diverse is each country’s development story? Are there trends or a common consensus on how Asian countries were able to grow and develop? Asia’s Journey to Prosperity answers these questions and expounds on interesting topics like the state vs markets, role of technologies, demography, macroeconomic stability, gender and environment. As economies begin to open up post-Covid 19, looking back at the different factors of Asia’s economic journey will be critical for sustainable development of the future.
